REACh/RoHS Training for Downstream Users
This one day course is aimed at addressing the specific issue of how to meet compliance requirements for manufacturers/suppliers of ‘articles’ (solid articles) in the EU. ‘Articles’ can be any manufactured item, for example, electronic goods, furniture, automotive products, household items, clothing, packaging, industrial equipment and all consumer goods.
Whereas most REACh training courses provide an overview of the registration process for chemical manufacturers, this course is specifically aimed at companies that use chemicals in their manufacture but are not involved in the manufacture of chemicals themselves. If this description fits your business, you are a ‘downstream user’ of chemicals.
Any ‘downstream user’ has a duty to communicate information to all industrial/commercial customers if the ‘articles’ manufactured/supplied contain more than 0.1% by weight of any Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
  • Companies that manufacture or supply articles
  • Those responsible for environmental compliance in manufacturing businesses
  • Those dealing with customer enquiries with
  • REACH/RoHS as the list of relevant substances grows.

The course will be held at various locations. For more information contact Colin Martin, Senior Partner at ParaChem: Tel: 02392 704001, www.parachem.co.uk

3rd International Conference on Materials and Applications for Sensors and Transducers
September 13 – 17, 2013
Conference Center, Orea Hotel Pyramida 4 Prague, Czech Republic
The conference aims at creating a forum on the field of materials research and their applications, especially for those materials that are used for sensors and devices that transduce physical properties. (See the IC MAST 2013 website for a detailed list of topics.)

Company News & Products

Indestructible Paint Limited
Indestructible provide WW2 colours for modern RAF Tucano
This Birmingham based aerospace coating manufacturer is also a supporter of worthy historical aircraft restoration and related aviation projects. An example of this type of support occurred recently when the company manufactured and supplied paints to match three RAF Mediterranean and North African camouflage colours from World War Two.
The low VOC 2 pack material provided an accurate colour match to the original 1940’s colours, Dark Earth, Middle Stone and Azure Blue. Now applied to a modern squadron Tucano training aircraft they will be seen when this aircraft provides aerobatic displays during the 2013 season, from RAF Linton-on-Ouse.
The Tucano represents Spitfires flown by the same squadron during WW2 to mark the 70th anniversary of its involvement in the 1943 desert campaign in North Africa.

Sifco Applied Surface Concepts
Sifco Applied Surface Concepts achieves ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard Sifco (ASC), a leading supplier of selective plating technology and solutions is pleased to announce that it has recently achieved the internationally recognised ISO 14001 environmental standard.
The ISO 14001 standard addresses various aspects of environmental management and recognises companies that are seen to identify and control their environmental impact across a variety of areas.
Part of Norman Hay Plc, they have met the strict criteria of the standard by taking measures to reduce energy consumption at its UK site in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
Savings have been made in fuel consumption, by switching to low emission vehicles, increasing recycling and reuse of packaging, plus saving paper and ink by moving a high volume of print processes online through the implementation of SAGE business software.
Congratulations to Mark Smith, European General Manager.

Additional Unit for Study-Nanotechnology
An additional unit has been added to the list of units available for study for the IMF’s Foundation Certificate.
This unit provides invaluable knowledge on a topic that is finding important new industrial applications every day. An introduction to the concepts of nanotechnology is given, the changes to the physical properties of materials when present as nanoscale entities are summarised and examples of some of the current applications of nanotechnology, focusing in particularly on applications in materials finishing, are given.
Further information on the Foundation Certificate and the choice of units available for study can be found at http://www.materialsfinishing.org.htm or by contacting David Meacham on 0121 622 7387 or emailing david@materialsfinishing.org
